Mason's first sledding experience

Even though this is from almost a month ago (Feb 4th), I had to share it.

"give momma kisses" video

The video quality isn't the best, but thought Mason was cute to give me kisses when I asked him. He and Zander are so night and day. Mason is definitely my cuddler. He loves giving hugs and kisses.

"I did it" - perfect timing!

Tonight for dinner, I made pasta and rolls. Zander loves to dip his roll in honey. He wanted to squeeze the honey in a pile all by himself, so I let him. Mana used the honey after Zander was done. Then, I grabbed the honey and found that the cap had spaghetti sauce all over it. After accusing Mana of making the mess, the conversation went like this:
Mana: I didn't do it
Me: maybe Zander did it
Zander: No, I didn't do it. MOM did it.
Me: No, I didn't.
MASON: I DID IT!!!

We all burst out laughing...for a LONG time. It was hilarious. It was one of those moments that I SO wish a video camera was running. It was so cute. Mason really wanted to join in the conversation and it was the perfect since he says "I did it" ALL the time.

Kid updates

Zander
potty training update: Zander has now gone twice. His 2nd time was the day after the first time. We are now convinced that he can make the physical/mental connection. And how, you ask? Well, we've been putting him in undies all the time and he only has accidents about 20% of the time. He has now figured out how to hold it until naptime/bedtime when we put a diaper on him. He does the "pee-pee" dance, as I've heard others call it/ When he does this, we ask him if he needs to use the bathroom, but he screams NO... and it usually leads to a meltdown. We continue to use the reward system, but that doesn't seem to motivate him. All we can do is keep trying.

Car ramps: Zander is totally into car ramps right now...or maybe I should say that Zander AND Mana are into car ramps. Every time I go downstairs, they have a new contraption set up. For example, they built a house out of Lincoln Logs and then launched cars down the ramp to see how many cars it would take to knock the house down. They also set up all the Lincoln Logs upright like bowling pins. Today Marissa and Jason were over and so it was triple trouble. Zander, Mana and Jason set up many "contraptions" for the cars to go through. It kind of looked like the game, Mouse Trap.

Candyland: Zander also loves playing Candyland. He got it for xmas and has played it just about every day since. This picture here is from last weekend when my parents and M & J came over for "game night". Before Zander went to bed, we all played Candyland to appease him. Anytime we play, you're bound to hear, "I hope you get gingerbread", or "Dad [or Mom], you can't catch up to me!"

Mason
Walking - or lack thereof: I'm guessing Mason will be walking in about a month. He will stand up on his own for short periods of time. As soon as he realizes he's standing on his own, he plops to the floor. He loves pushing his lion (on wheels) around the living room. He get s big kick out of "getting" mom or dad.

Talking: Mason has been jibber-jabbering a LOT lately. Some of the new words in his repertoire...
hot (when he sees the fireplace or a candle)
chee (cheese)
ni-ni (night-night - wants to go to sleep)
chill (aka "chilly" - when he sees Mana drinking his Mt Dew)
naa-na (banana - LOVES bananas)

Food: I can't believe that Mason will be 1 in less than a few weeks. It didn't hit me until about a month ago, that I need to be in the "wind down" stage of milk production. I took a look at the freezer and found MANY bags of milk left still. I'm down to pumping only once at work. I've been debating about continuing to nurse in the morning and night past 12 months. I really love nursing, just hate pumping. We'll see. Mason has been drinking juice and water in sippy cups just fine, so I'm not worried about him doing whole milk in a cup.

Mason's 1st birthday invite

Here's Mason's first birthday party invitation. I gave Mana a sketch and text and he made it "fancy". They are glossy postcards - 5 x 5. I love how they turned out. I still can't believe my baby is almost 1!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Bedtime conversation with Zander - talking about love/valentines...

Me: I love you so much because you're funny, smart and a good big brother
Zander: Mom, I love you because you're pretty!
Mom: Ahh, that's so nice. Do you love me for any other reasons?
Zander: No
Mom: Why do you love Dad?
Zander: I love Dad because he plays with me, build castles, build car ramps (and a few more things I can't remember)

Just goes to show you that Mana is the "fun" one and I'm the one with "rules" - and good looks too, apparently. Who knew?!

The curse is over.... or so I hope!

I'm still in shock - can't believe it finally happened. Zander went #1 in the toilet for the first time today! I was at work and received an email from Mana titled "Guess what I did" and attached was a picture of Zander holding two cars that he got to open as his reward. I started tearing up at work. Pathetic, I know. This has been such a long haul. We have made so many attempts over the last year or so, but he always says he doesn't know when he has to go. The kid is smart, so I know he could tell us if he wanted to. He just couldn't get the physical part to click with his brain. I was just telling Mana the other day that I think we should take him to the doc to make sure there's nothing wrong physically.... and then he proves us wrong. I just hope it's not a fluke thing.

How it all went down...
Today was "daddy daycare", so Mana put him in underwear (as we usually do when we're home with him) and did our usual routine of setting the timer every 20-30 minutes and having him try. Today, in the early morning, he had an accident (as he does every time we've put him in undies). Now usually we would just put him in a diaper after an accident, but Mana told him that we'll keep trying today. So, on one of those attempts, Zander was sitting reading a book on the toilet for a few minutes. Then Mana suggested he stand and try. A few minutes later, still nothing.... although now Mana had to go himself and Zander watched. After that, Mana left the bathroom to get a diaper since it was approaching naptime. Right after Mana left, he heard 'tinkle, tinkle, tinkle' from the bathroom and came back to watch Zander peeing in the toilet - with perfect aim, I guess! Also, something to note is that Mason was also in the bathroom and was crawling over to see the excitement. Thank goodness Zander was aiming in the toilet.
